Cancer fundraiser attains target
Saturday, July 1st, 2006The South Coast Optimist Club of Antigua managed to raise the targeted US$2,000 for the cause of Spadicia Harris, the recipient of the club’s Cancer Awareness Month efforts.
Harris, a Nut Grove resident, has been suffering from Osteogenic Sarcoma, which is a bone tumour in her right leg. The nine-year-old cancer survivor was in need of funds for a leg operation that is expected to enable her to walk normally and return to school.
The “Walk the Walk” Walkathon and breakfast that was held on 24 June did just that.
She left on 25 June for the operation at the Maria Mareri Children’s Hospital at the West Chester Medical Center in Van Halla, New York.
